Seoul Cyber University Approved to Offer Online Ph.D. Program by Ministry of Education - Ministry of Education Approves Doctoral Programs; Human Services and Counseling Psychology Graduate Schools Transition to General Graduate Schools - Doctoral courses will be available starting from the first semester of 2025 [Photo] Professor Park Ki-hoon, Social Welfare Major at the Graduate School of Human Services, giving a lecture in a smart classroom Our university's graduate school (Dean Kim Hwan) has received approval from the Ministry of Education to establish a doctoral program and transition into a general graduate school, opening an online doctoral program. Since its founding as Korea’s first cyber university in 2001, our university has set numerous milestones in the field of online education. This approval is a key moment in Seoul Cyber University’s 25-year history. From next year, we will provide quality master’s and Ph.D. programs to help professionals advance their careers. Our university operates a master’s program in Social Welfare under the Graduate School of Human Services and a master’s program in Counseling and Clinical Psychology under the Graduate School of Counseling Psychology. The Social Welfare program was the first online master’s program established by a cyber university, and despite being an online institution, Seoul Cyber University has built an on-site education and practicum network through nationwide academic-industry partnerships. The Counseling and Clinical Psychology program, with the largest faculty of counseling psychology professors in the country and top-tier educational infrastructure, offers hands-on counseling practice and certification training programs through five counseling centers (Seoul main campus, Bundang, Incheon, Daegu, Gwangju) and nationwide counseling institution partnerships. Through the Ministry of Education’s approval to launch a Ph.D. program, the two specialized graduate schools will be merged and transformed into a general graduate school, starting the doctoral program in spring 2025. The two schools currently have a capacity of 390 students, with 398 students enrolled (as of April 1), and have graduated 1,375 professionals across various fields. With the Ministry of Education's approval confirmed, we will focus on revising the academic rules and completing the necessary steps to prepare for the program launch. SCU university (President Lee Eunjoo, www.iscu.ac.kr) is the cyber university chosen by the most students, recording the highest number of new enrollments for three consecutive years (2021-2023, according to University Information Network). It has received an A grade in all three official Ministry of Education accreditation evaluations (2007, 2013, 2020) and is the first cyber university in Korea to be selected as the recipient of the Ministry of Education's Distance University Educational Innovation Support Project for two consecutive terms. |
